On April 5th the students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Communication of Kalbis Institute, majoring in Advertising and Digital Communication, visited Growinc Group Indonesia to learn a practical experience inside the world of an advertising agency.
The group consisting of 15 students and 2 lecturers was welcomed by the Corporate Communications Manager, Dyama Khazim, which began with introducing the company culture by showcasing the “My 2016 Life At Growinc” video on Growinc’s Youtube channel.
Following the introduction, the group was taken for an office tour to each department of every companies under Growinc, including Non-Fiction, Brand Unit, Growmint, and Nesvara, which enriched the student’s knowledge about the advertising workplace.
Continued afterwards with a quick presentation session by Larastika Oktavianti, Head of New Media & Distribution, Growmint, who explained the working process within the company and also shared insights on past case studies.
According to Larastika, a digital advertising agency and other creative advertising agencies have a similar work flow, but the difference lies on the output. “A digital advertising agency like Growmint, has the ability to optimize their performance by adjusting the content on microsites or social media channels during the campaign run. Whilst it may be difficult to do the same thing for other advertising agencies who create TVC or radio adlibs,” she said.
To gain a deeper understanding about the advertising agency industry, Growmint also prepared a mini workshop for the students to demonstrate the process of what a client’s brief looks like and how to brainstorm properly. The students were divided into teams and given a short brief of a case study example, then were asked to find ideas in promoting the Changi Airport facilities campaign to Indonesian tourists. The session soon turned interactive and ended up with a single group winner who were considered to produce the most well-thought idea.
Agus Trijanto, Lecturer in Advertising, Kalbis Institute, said that the aim of this company visit was to help the students gain practical experience on what they have learned theoretically, particularly in the advertising industry. “The visit proved to be a wonderful opportunity for both lecturers and the students to understand the growth of digital technology which we can also use to improve our educational programs,” commented Agus.
Jesslyn Abigal, Company Visit Secretary of Faculty of Communication, Kalbis Institute, added, “Visiting Growinc answers our curiosity on how to sell a brand and find creative solutions through digital platforms. We really learned a lot and it helps us to be more prepared in the future.”
